Vital Statistics
State Registration of Catholic births, marriages and deaths did not begin in Ireland until 1864. Consequently the Baptismal and Marriage records of the Roman Catholic Church, prior to this, are the only records available for genealogy.
The earliest record of a Dundon baptism in this database is that of
Edmund (Father's name illegible) to Mary Dundon on 14 May, 1747 in St. Mary's Church, Limerick.
The earliest record of a marriage is that of
Lawrie Samuel to Catherine Dundon, on 30 December, 1764, in St. Munchin's Church, Limerick.
Most of the records are written in Latin.
In the case of baptisms, the date, the child's name, the parents' names and the sponsors' names are given. Addresses are seldom given. Sometimes a townland is mentioned. The priests' names are given though not recorded in this Dundon database.
In the case of marriages the date, the parties names and the witnesses' names are given. Only after 1864 are the parents' names given. The officiating priests' names are given but not recorded in this study.
